New Zealand Powerball Drawing Hindered by Faulty Machine

Saturday's New Zealand Powerball drawing had an estimated top prize of NZD$ 9 million, but the drawing had to be continued off-air when the Powerball machine failed to eject one of the balls during the televised drawing.

The second drawing of the Powerball number was conducted under the supervision of Audit New Zealand and televised at 21:00, during the results update.

New Zealand Lotteries Commission Spokeswoman Emilia Mazur said: "There was a technical issue with that machine because the number didn't get drawn. The Lotto numbers are still absolutely valid. There was no Powerball drawn on air. It has since been drawn off air and that number is valid as it stands."

No tickets matched the six numbers and the Powerball so the draw ended in a rollover. The next New Zealand Powerball drawing is on Saturday, November 1, 2014. The estimated jackpot is NZD$ 11 million.
