A builder from Bournemouth had a feeling a big win was waiting for him earlier this week and how right he was—two scratchcards later he became a millionaire.
John Abreu, 37, discovered his feeling was up to scratch on Monday, August 18, 2014, when he purchased a UK National Lottery scratchcard, but a little persistence was required.
"I bought a scratchcard and although I didn't win on that one I had a feeling I might get lucky, so thought it was worth another shot and bought another one," Abreu said.
What happened next is something the father of six will never forget for the rest of his life.
"I scratched it there in the store and was screaming when I realized I had won. I have only won the odd £10 or £30 before; so was in absolute shock to see I had won £1million," Abreu continued.
Eager to share the good news Abreu rang his wife Silvana straight away, but she thought he was pulling her leg.
"My friend was outside and had to call her to convince her that it was true," Abreu said.
He and his wife have been living in rented property, but now he has some extra funds at his disposal the delighted builder intends to invest some of the money in a home of their own.
"It still hasn’t really sunk in," Abreu said. "This win has changed our lives and given us security for the future. We have rented for a while, so having our own home will be really good for our family."
