Retired Banker Boosts his Bank Balance with a Flower-Powered Lottery Win

A retired bank worker from Smithtown, New York, became stinking rich when he decided to buy a bunch of flowers for his wife.

George Uss, purchased the flowers from Giunta’s Meat Farms grocery store and couldn't resist buying a New York Lottery "King's Ransom" scratch-off ticket while he was there.

"I was leaving the store and walked past the machine," Uss said. "I had change left from my purchase, so I bought a ticket."

Uss scratched off the ticket while sitting inside his car and got the surprise of his life when discovered he'd won the $3 million top prize.

Uss opted to take his prize as a one-off lump-sum payment of $1,548,612, after taxes, and is now considering splashing out on a swimming pool.
