New Home for New Zealand Lotto Winners

A retired couple from Blenheim, New Zealand, are planning on moving out of rented property and into a home of their own thanks to a NZD$ 1 million First Division win in Saturday's New Zealand Powerball drawing.

The set for life seniors have opted to remain anonymous, but told lottery officials they were "on cloud nine" when they realized they had bagged such a big prize.

"I said to my husband, 'I think we have all six numbers, but I could be wrong', so we jumped on the website to double check," the woman recalled and admitted they had to recheck the numbers several times before they were finally sure the prize was theirs.

Speaking of their plans for the money, the woman said: "We are renting now and this win means that we'll be able to buy a home without the need for a mortgage—it's very exciting. The thing we are most excited about is the financial security the NZD$ 1 million prize will bring to our future—being retired isn't easy on the bank account."
