Irish Lotto Winner's Shock Discovery

A woman from Dublin, Ireland, visited the National Lottery Ireland's head office on Friday to collect her half of the Irish Lotto Plus 2 Jackpot from the drawing held on Saturday, August 16, 2014. But on speaking to lottery staff, she was shocked to discover she'd miscalculated her prize.

The delighted Dubliner only expected to pick up a check for €125,000 because a second ticket, also sold in Dublin, had matched the winning numbers as well. When National Lottery staff explained her prize was double that amount the lucky winner, who has opted to remain anonymous, was over the moon.

"I thought I’d won €125,000—as there were two winners—which is huge, but €250,000 is a dream!" she said.

When asked about her plans for the money she said: "I'll pay off the mortgage and bills and treat myself to a new car."

The second €250,000 prize has yet to be claimed.
