Con Men Dupe Melbourne Man out of AUD$ 10,000

Two con men targeted a Melbourne resident and used a fake lottery ticket to trick him into handing over more than AUD$ 10,000.

According to Melbourne police the incident occurred on Pascoe Vale Road in Glenroy, at about 14:30 on July 22, 2014.

The first man said he had a winning lottery ticket, but could not claim the prize because he was an illegal immigrant.

The second man offered to buy a share of the ticket and then walked away. He returned moments later bearing a huge wad of cash and gave it to the first man.

The two men then convinced their victim to visit his bank, withdraw over AUD$ 10,000 in cash and hand it over to them, along with more cash and jewelry from his home, for a share of the bogus prize. The thieves then made their escape while the man was inside a newsagent's shop.
