Colorado Man Claims $90 Million Jackpot

The winner of the largest jackpot ever to be won a Colorado Lottery ticket claimed his prize on Wednesday.

The Rifle resident, who used to drive a tow truck until he scooped the $90 million US Powerball jackpot on Saturday, August 9, 2014, does not wish to receive too much publicity so he only provide the partial name Claude "Al" G.

Al's mother, Marie, and his wife, Jackie, accompanied him yesterday when he attended a press conference organized by lottery officials. When asked about his plans for the money, Al said he intends to take his family on a big vacation, but he has yet to decide on whether to take the prize in annuity payments or as a one-time lump-sum payment of $54,878,048.78.

Al purchased his winning Quick Pick ticket at his local Kum and Go convenience store. The store will receive a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The US Powerball is a multi-state draw that offers a minimum jackpot of $40 million. Numbers are drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 22:59 (EST). The next drawing is on Saturday, August 16, 2014. The estimated jackpot is $50 million.

US Mega Millions players don't have so long to wait if they wish to test their luck. The next drawing is on Friday at 23:00 (ET) and the estimated jackpot is $144 million.
