Barbecue Burger Shortage Leads to Powerball Win

US Powerball Winner Dan Hoffman scooped a $1 million prize earlier this month when he miscalculated the supplies needed for his July 4, Barbecue.

"I can’t believe I won a million dollars because we ran out of hamburgers," Dan said.

Believe it or not, that is exactly what happened because the Yorkville, Illinois, resident would never have made the trip to his local Jewel-Osco supermarket in the first place and so would not have made the spur-of-the-moment decision to buy his Quick Pick Ticket.

The US Powerball is a multi-state draw that offers a minimum jackpot of $40 million. Numbers are drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 22:59 (EST).
