Retiree Claims First Prize in New Lottery Game

A retiree from Cowlitz County has become the first person to win the $50,000 top prize on the Washington Lottery's new "Tournament Slots" scratch-off game.

The Lottery announced the news on Tuesday morning and said Longview resident, Jeffrey Wagoner, bought his winning ticket from his local Fred Meyer superstore and claimed his prize on May 9, 2014.

Wagoner told Washington Lottery officials he is a regular lottery player and said this was his first big win. He plans to share the money with his wife and children.

Tournament Slots tickets cost $5. There are now four $50,000 top prizes left to be won. Other prizes range from $5 to $1,000 and the overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 3.79.
