Powerball Player Claims his Prize at Last

The Iowa Lottery can finally end their six month search for the winner of the $1 million US Powerball prize won on a ticket purchased in Tipton, Iowa, on November 16, 2013.

The prize has been claimed by a man from the state of Missouri who purchased the ticket when he stopped to get some gas while passing through Iowa on business.

Richard Watson, 58, claimed his prize on Monday, May 19, 2014, after his bank rang him and told him to contact the Iowa lottery.

Iowa Lottery investigators had contacted the Kum & Go gas station and managed to gather sufficient information to tie the winning ticket purchase to Watson and get in touch with his bank.

"I travel for work and I have a bundle of lottery tickets that I was planning on going through, but I hadn’t yet," Watson explained. "And I received a call that I thought was a scam, but it turned out it wasn’t."
