A factory worker from Bartlett, Illinois, visited the lottery headquarters last week and claimed a $1 million Mega Millions prize.
Ron Ranallo's ticket matched five numbers drawn on Friday, May 16, 2014.
Ranallo's father purchased the Quick Pick ticket on his behalf.
"When we realized I'd won, we were absolutely shocked," Ranallo said.
If he'd added the Megaplier option to his ticket he would have picked up a $5 million prize because the Megaplier number was 5. Getting the Mega Ball would have scooped the estimated jackpot of $136 million, but $1 million is still a sizeable win and Ranallo plans to invest the money ready for his retirement.
"This lottery win gives me peace of mind," he said.
