Olympic Canoeing Champions Defend Removal of Lottery Funding

Olympic canoeing champions, Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott, have defended UK Sport's recent decision to withdraw lottery funding from British basketball, water polo, weightlifting and synchronized swimming.

Baillie and Stott, who won gold in the canoe slalom at London in 2012, stated they believe UK Sports controversial decision allows lottery funds to target sports that are most likely to ensure Britain's Olympic success.

Each year UK Sport invests around £100 million of public funds in high performance sports. The funding is provided by the National Lottery and the Exchequer. The organization plans to invest £350 million into preparing British athletes for Rio 2016.
