On Friday, October 24, 2014, someone in Portugal scooped the mammoth €190 million (£149.7 million) EuroMillions jackpot. A week passed and nobody claimed the prize, causing a great deal of speculation about the winner's identity.
The Portuguese lottery organizer (Gambling Department of Santa Casa da Misericordia) stated the winning ticket was purchased from a newsagent in the Castelo Branco area, 220 km northeast of Lisbon. Nothing else was known.
The Santa Casa da Misericordia has now confirmed the winner has come forward and claimed the prize, but the speculation will have to continue because he or she has opted to remain anonymous.
