A Navy veteran from Illinois scratched his way to lottery victory last week with an Illinois Lottery "$10 Million Cash Bonanza" scratch-off ticket.
Gary Barry, a former US Navy yeoman, scratched off his ticket at home, sitting in his chair in front of the TV, and bagged the game's $10 million top prize.
But winning such a big prize was so out of the blue it took some time to sink in.
"I must have stared at that ticket for an hour," Barry said. "I never, ever expected to win a prize like this."
When asked about his plans for the money, Barry said he intends to seek professional advice.
