Agents at the Iowa Department of Public Safety say they have received hundreds of tips since Thursday, when they released a video showing a man purchasing the winning Hot Lotto ticket at the center of a fraud investigation.
Speaking on Monday, Department of Public Safety spokesman, Alex Murphy, said the department is focusing on a dozen leads that are seen as being credible, but urged the public to continue sending in any tips that may help investigators to track down those involved.
The ticket at the center of the investigation was purchased in Des Moines, Iowa, in December 2010, and won the $14 million jackpot, but nobody came forward to claim the prize until the very last moment when a New York attorney came forward and stated he represented the winner. When the lottery pressed him for further information about his client, he withdrew the claim and left.
