In a news release earlier this week, the Hoosier Lottery said the $9 million Hoosier Lottery jackpot from the October 1, 2014, drawing has been claimed from a couple from LaGrange.
Leif Erikson bought his winning ticket from the Shell gas station in Freemont on the day of the draw, but neglected to check the ticket until his wife, Loretta, read a friend's Facebook message saying a big winner had failed to claim their prize.
Leif and Loretta claimed the prize on October 9.
"This is unbelievable, but I think it is finally starting to settle on us,” Leif said.
Loretta is now hoping she will be able to convince her husband to quit his job as a mail contractor and take an early retirement.
