It's taken her nearly a month to do so, but a US Powerball winner from Fresno, California, has stepped forward and claimed the $1.26 million second tier prize from the drawing held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014.
According to California Lottery officials, Maria Padilla claimed her prize last Friday.
Padilla, a retired machine operator, purchased her winning ticket at her local Qik-n-EZ convenience store. She gets all her tickets the Qik-n-EZ way, but told lottery officials Powerball is not usually her game, stating she only purchased the ticket because there was a $228.5 million jackpot up for grabs.
"I had a feeling the store was a winner," Padilla said.
The store will get a $6,321 retailer's bonus for selling the winning ticket.
The lucky winner's plans for her lotto cash are quite simple. She intends to invest it.
