A woman from County Kildare had reason to celebrate yesterday when she pulled a wad of old EuroMillions tickets from her purse and ran them through a self-checker. Although none of them had won a EuroMillions prize one of them had bagged the €500,000 top prize in the EuroMillions Plus drawing on Tuesday, August 19, 2014.
When the machine flashed a message stating she needed to contact the National Lottery Ireland, the woman rushed home instead and rechecked her numbers online.
"At first I thought it was €500," the winner told lottery officials. "I had to get my daughter to help me see that it was €500,000—I just couldn’t believe it!"
Ireland's EuroMillions Plus game costs €1 and provides players with additional chances to win a prize. To be entered into the draw players only need to tick a box on their EuroMillions ticket.
