A couple from Hertfordshire, England, have been able to move their wedding plans forward after they won nearly £800,000 in the UK National Lottery's Lotto drawing on Saturday, June 7, 2014.
Ware resident Lesley Blackman, 40, and her fiancé Matthew McCarthy were manning a car boot sale stall when Lesley checked her numbers using the National Lottery's mobile phone app and discovered she'd won £799,255.
"Matthew and I carried on with our car boot sale but kept sitting down and giggling," Lesley said. "I really couldn’t concentrate for the rest of the day and just kept telling everyone that everything was a pound so I think some bargains were had."
Lesley was one of six players who took a share of the £4.79 million jackpot and her Lotto windfall will allow her to make one of her biggest dreams come true a little sooner than expected.
"We have been planning to get married for a while now with a small gathering of family and friends in Lake Como, Italy, but we weren't able to afford it," Lesley explained. "With this win we’ll still have exactly the same wedding but we can now set a date sooner rather than later. I'm so happy; I can't wait to organize it."
Although she is grateful for the extra cash Lesley, who presently works as an insurance manager, is taking a level-headed approach to her win.
“This is a life changing amount for us, but not a retirement fund, so I think a career change will be on the cards," she said. "Matthew is a tiler and we have always wanted to buy some properties and do them up."
