A Grand Rapids resident has become the first person to win the $2 million top prize in the Michigan Lottery's new "$2,000,000 CA$H" game.
Denise Skonieczny purchased her ticket from a local Meijer gas station and got busy scratching as soon as she returned to her car. She was shocked to learn her $30 ticket had given her such a massive return on her investment.
"I was so nervous because I had to go back to work and leave the ticket in my car," Skonieczny said. "I didn’t really believe that I had won until I called the lottery office and had the ticket verified."
Skonieczny chose to take her winnings as a one-off lump-sum payment of $1.2 million and received $897, 000, after state and federal taxes. She is now planning a trip to Disney World and has her heart set on a new car and a new home.
Two first prizes remain in the $2,000,000 CA$H game. Other prizes range from $30 to $10,000.
