Illinois Lottery Winner Wants to Help Rehabilitate Battered Women

An Illinois Lottery winner from Oak Park, Chicago, plans to use some of her winnings to help create a rehabilitation center for battered women and children.

Yajaira Perez, 27, has won $5,000 a week for the next 20 years courtesy of an Illinois Lottery scratch-off ticket. She used a penny to uncover the winning symbols and, like so many Lottery winners before her, she found it hard to believe her eyes when her small change revealed a big money prize.

"I couldn't believe it," she said and then went on to urge other lottery winners to follow her example and 'try and give back in some way'.
