Store Worker Denies Lottery Ticket Theft

A convenience store worker accused of stealing a UK National Lottery ticket worth £1,090 has pleaded not guilty.

Yawar Saeed Butt, 53, allegedly stole the ticket from a regular customer who handed him the ticket so he could check it with the shop's machine.  The customer, who has been playing the same numbers for 14 years, says he only received £3, but the machine beeped twice, signifying a big win. Butt then allegedly went to the post office and claimed the winnings himself.

Butt has been granted bail and will be tried before a jury, at Basildon Crown Court, in April.
