Carpenter Adds a Winning Lotto Ticket to his Shopping List

A carpenter has nailed a big win on a Washington Lottery scratch off ticket he bought on a whim.

Kelly Cruz, 53, bought the winning ticket from Safeway on Northwest Boulevard while he was shopping for his father, Henry Cruz, who needed bread and milk and lotto tickets. While he was there the carpenter decided he would try his luck with a Lucky for Life ticket, and got the surprise of his life when his scratching revealed he'd won $1,000 a week.

Cruz insists the money will not change him, but admits he intends to buy a lifetime membership in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. His other plans for the money are more generous. "I'll be able to help out some charities I'm involved in," he said.
